The best first automations share three traits: the manual version already fails regularly, the rule is easy to state, and a human stays in control of anything a customer sees.
Start here
- Speed-to-contact: when a lead arrives, create the task, notify the owner, and draft (not send) the first touch. The gap between inquiry and first contact is where the most winnable revenue quietly dies.
- Follow-up cadences on quotes and estimates: a fixed sequence with clear exit conditions — replied, booked, closed, opted out.
- Missed-call recovery: log the missed call as a lead and, where consent and registration allow, send a compliant text-back.
- Handoff monitoring: flag records that changed stage but have no owner, no next task, or no activity in N days.
What to defer
Defer anything that sends without review until your data, consent records, and suppression lists have earned that trust. Defer multi-branch journeys until single sequences are actually completing. And defer AI decisions until the deterministic version has run long enough to define what 'good' looks like.
